Gondry's producer Julie Fong told us they are really glad for the positive reception the video received at networks, for "Man" was a labor of love by a relatively small crew. Before the video was shot, a multi-state knitting crew led by Lauri Faggioni worked feverishly for a month to create the sets. The video is wild and fun, and "it was equally fun to make," says Fong. One example she gave: Michel went to the shops and hand-picked buttons for the mixer in the video. From the video treatment: "The walls, the furniture, the instruments, the recording equipment, even the camera is created out of yarn and wool...as the band records, we follow the journey of a mean-knitted Bouncer across the street. Later, he scales the Capitol Records building (also knitted), in a King Kong-esque way..." The video was filmed Nov 8th and 9th in NYC, and released in America Feb. 10. See Walkie Talkie Man here. Post production company The Mill has posted this article about their work on the video. Creative Planet's Design In Motion has an article and interview with dp/animator Peter Sluszka here. And MTV has treatment sketches here. Check the wonderful making of the vid produced by Capitol, with Gondry narrating. See it in any format at ifilm.com, or here at Partizan. Animation World Magazine has an article and interview here with Peter Sluzska, director of animation at Dancing Diablo, about the making of "Walkie Talkie Man." The video is available on the enhanced CD portion of Steriögram's debut album Schmack!, released May 18 in America. It won the 2004 Audience Choice Award at RESFEST. |
